The Comfort Fit Guide

The Comfort Fit Guide

Why underwear digs in, and how to check yours

A short guide to where underwear presses, why it rides up, and how to check the fit of what you already own. It takes about five minutes.

1

Where underwear digs in

  • The waistband. A band that is too small, or that sits on the softest part of your stomach, presses in and leaves a mark.
  • The leg openings. Tight or high-cut leg elastic presses into the crease at the top of your leg.
  • The gusset. If the panel between your legs is narrow, the fabric pulls inward and the brief rides up.

2

Why it rides up: the gusset test

The gusset is the narrowest part of most briefs. We measured four other brands: their gussets were 5.5 to 6cm wide. Every Cuurve piece with a gusset has an 8cm gusset.

Try it at home

  1. Lay a pair of briefs you wear often flat on a table.
  2. Measure across the gusset at its narrowest point.
  3. Compare it with 8cm. If yours is much narrower and your briefs ride up, a wider gusset may help.

3

How our fabrics feel

  • Modal. Soft against the skin. Used in the Sleek Sophie, Elevated Emma, Cosy Charlotte and Calm Clara.
  • ECONYL® regenerated nylon. Smoother and cooler than our modal. A good choice if you get hot.
  • Lyocell. Thin and light. Used in the Sweet Sienna loungewear set. In fabric testing, a customer chose it over thicker fabrics because thinner felt better.

4

The one-minute fit check

Put on a brief you wear often and check four things:

  1. Waistband: it lies flat and doesn't leave a deep mark after an hour.
  2. Leg openings: you can slide a finger under the elastic.
  3. Gusset: it covers you without pulling to one side.
  4. Back: it stays in place when you sit down and stand up.

If two or more fail, the size or the shape is probably wrong for you.
