How to Buy Comfortable Underwear as a Gift (and Get the Size Right)
By Aileen Gana, founder of Cuurve
To buy comfortable underwear as a gift, start with the size she usually wears, choose a soft, roomy style such as shorts, and check the brand's size guide and returns policy before you order. If you're torn between two sizes, pick the one that matches her most comfortable pair. If you're really not sure, a gift card lets her choose.
Why give underwear as a gift?
Underwear is one of the most personal things you can buy someone. That's exactly why it can mean so much.
One of my favourite orders this year came from a man in America who had found Cuurve on Google. He ordered a pair of Cosy Charlotte shorts for his wife. Her old underwear had started to feel too small and uncomfortable, and he'd gone looking for something softer and roomier. She's British, and after many years abroad, it meant something to her to have a little piece of home.
A lot of women won't buy comfortable things for themselves. A mum, a sister or a friend whose body has changed may be the person who'd love this most.
How do I find out her underwear size?
- Check a pair she already wears. The size is on the label.
- Use her clothing size. Cuurve sizes run from XS (UK 6–8) to L (UK 18–20).
- Ask someone close to her. A partner, daughter or friend often knows.
- Use a fit guide. Our Comfort Fit Guide and Size Guide help you choose.
Still unsure? Email hello@cuurve.co with whatever you know and we'll help.
Should I size up or down?
Follow the brand's own advice. Our Cosy Charlotte shorts have a generous, relaxed fit, so if she's between sizes, size down. Our briefs are true to size.
What style is easiest to buy for someone else?
Shorts and full briefs are the safest choice. They don't depend on a precise fit the way thongs or structured shapes do.
- The Cosy Charlotte Modal Shorts (£59): soft modal shorts for sleep and lounging, designed not to dig, roll or ride up.
- The Cosy Charlotte Set (£129): the shorts with the matching Calm Clara cami, £5 less than buying them separately. You can choose a different size for each piece.
Every Cuurve brief and short has an 8cm gusset for more coverage, and is made in small batches by our women-led studio in Yorkshire.
What fabric makes a good gift?
Soft, breathable fabrics feel like a treat. Our modal is made from beech wood pulp, is lightly stretchy and is OEKO-TEX® certified. If she has sensitive skin, read what dermatologists recommend first.
What if it doesn't fit?
Returns are free for UK orders. She can return unworn, unwashed items within 14 days of receiving them, as long as the swing tags are still attached. Exchanges depend on stock. Read our full returns policy.
What if I really don't know her size?
Give a gift card. Cuurve gift cards come in £39, £59 and £100, arrive by email and are valid for 12 months. £59 covers a pair of Cosy Charlotte shorts.
