The Evolution of Women’s Underwear: From Ancient Times to Therapeutic Carewear™

When most people think about underwear, fashion trends and fleeting styles often come to mind. But if you look at the evolution of underwear through time, you’ll notice that trends swing back and forth—what’s in vogue one decade often returns in another. At Cuurve, we believe that true comfort never goes out of style. That’s why our designs focus on timeless quality, not passing fads.

Fashion vs. Timeless Comfort

Fashion is cyclical, but comfort is essential. At Cuurve, we put comfort and your needs first, always. If you’re searching for gentle underwear for sensitive skin, you’ll find our pieces are designed for real life, not just the runway.

My Journey: From Sewing to Innovation

Over the years, I’ve personally sewn more than 100 pieces of underwear by hand. If you lined up all the fabric I’ve used, it would stretch the length of an Olympic swimming pool—over 50 metres! Every piece has taught me the value of fabric, fit, and care. I always use tactile testing—touching and feeling every fabric—to ensure it’s soft enough for sensitive skin.

Why Modern Therapeutic Underwear?

My mission with Cuurve is simple: I wanted to design underwear that feels like a hug. Studies show that hugs can lower stress and promote wellbeing. What better way to get that feeling daily than from your underwear?
Customers tell me our Cosy Charlotte shorts are “like a gentle hug”—perfect for those who need extra comfort, especially during recovery or on sensitive days.

Sarah’s Story: A Hug at Bedtime

One of my customers, Sarah, lives with chronic illness and low energy. She told me that wearing Cosy Charlotte shorts at night after a bath is now a cherished part of her bedtime routine. For her, our shorts offer the comfort of a gentle hug, helping her feel soothed and cared for before sleep.

Why Traditional Underwear Fails Sensitive & Fluctuating Bodies

Traditional underwear often fails people with sensitive skin or fluctuating bodies because it’s not designed with their needs in mind. Mass production is focused on speed and serving “the average,” rather than the unique requirements of people with chronic illness, swelling, or sensitive skin. That’s why seams dig, waistbands roll, and fabrics irritate—because comfort and adaptability weren’t considered from the start.

How to Choose Underwear That Feels Like a Hug

  • Choose ultra-soft fabrics (modal, lyocell, high-quality cotton)
  • Look for seamless, adaptive designs
  • Check for ethical sourcing and transparency
  • Avoid brands that hide their material composition
